I was commissioned to make the material for this coat (and other fabrics) by the movie director Franco Zeffirelli, for Queen Gertrude's cape in the movie 'Hamlet'. In the end, it was used instead for King Claudius, for Ophelia's funeral scene.
The Gertrude coat is hand-woven and hand-stitched in super kid mohair, silk, and alpaca, with sheepskin inserts. It is
fastened with hooks, like a fur coat. Satin lining. Very comfortable, soft, light, warm and very stylish.
An extra lining, made of batting, can be added to make the coat as warm as a quilted jacket.
